Is Your Audio Panning Out?

Multi Track Mix in Adobe Audition 3.0

Panning

Let’s be technical for a bit – and I’m going to use tech terms and jargon in this posting so be prepared if you’re new to the production game.  This post is for all you creative services directors, production directors – whatever it is you call yourselves in radio these days.  Me?  I prefer prod guy (or girl) or if I’m feeling particularly cocky: prod guru.  Yesterday I was working on a piece with a very high production value.  Lots of compression, reverb, EQ, various whooshes, stutters and gizmos.  You get the idea.  I decided to spice it up a bit more with some creative panning and that’s when I broke one of Hart’s rules: (more…)

Thought for Today – Eloquence

I read a quote this morning I found fascinating and I’ve been thinking about it all morning and how it applies to life.

False eloquence is exaggeration; true eloquence is emphasis. – William R. Alger

Voices.com Mixer Coming Near You?

Today Stephanie Ciccarelli posted on the Vox Daily blog at Voices.com the list of scheduled cities for upcoming Voices.com mixers.  Check it out and see if one is going to be near you.  They are free to attend and sound like a great place to meet others in the industry:

Did you know Hart Voice Overs is available in mobile format for your iPhone, Blackberry or other smart phone?

Just go to Hart Voice Overs in your mobile browser and it should come up in the mobile version automatically.

If you prefer to read the site in it’s original format there is a link at the bottom that sends you back to the web version.

I’ve added a new plugin to the site so you should now be able to listen to my demos and other audio files from your smart phone.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with the mobile version.  I check it often on my iPhone but never know what I might miss.

Peter O’Connell commented below and asked me to share how I did it. It’s insanely easy if you use WordPress:  (more…)

Dave Courvoisier on Chirbit

Chirbit - Share Audio EasilyMy friend and excellent VO pro Dave Courvoisier has discovered a very promising new website/application called chirbit.  It holds a lot of promise for those of us that work in the audio industry, whether voiceover or radio.  Dave had an excellent back and forth with the chirbit developer and posted about it on his blog Voice Acting in Vegas:

The site struck me as a delightful use of the potential of audio and social networking.  I eventually asked the originator of the site – Ivan Reyes – if he’d mind responding to a few pointed questions about Chirbit, specifically the possibilities for voice-actors.

It looks to me like the future holds a lot of promise for this way cool application – Chirbit.  Check it out by clicking on the quote.

Auto-Tune The News 10

The new Auto-Tune the News #10 video is on You Tube!  YES!  I love this stuff.

“You shall build a turtle fence, you shall build a turtle fence,” I’ll be singing that all day.

Having a little fun with my friend Taylor

This morning my friend and client Taylor Zarzour of NC Sports Talk posted on Twitter:

Hit a 3 & scored 1st bucket 4 the fighting Josh Haleys in the media game at Duke. Also got scored on by a girl. Lets focus on the positives.

Here’s a little something I whipped up in response:

HA-HA!

Wisdom From My 3 Year Old

This morning as I was dressing him for daycare my 3 year old son said, “The clock on your bracelet ticks and that means you’re running out of time.” Yes, yes it does. Wisdom from the mouth of babes.

Redco Audio is Awesome

Redco AudioWhen I use a company that has exceptional customer service I like to pass that information on to my friends and clients.  Redco Audio is one such company.  Redco manufactures and distributes custom pro audio and video cables, connectors, patchbays, microphone boxes and custom panels.

Recently I ordered some wall plates from Redco.  They didn’t have exactly what I wanted so they custom made them for me.  I ordered on a Monday, they made them on a Tuesday and I had them in my hot little hands on Thursday.

And to top it all off, Redco’s price was better than anything else I found on the net.  These babies are pretty and stout!  So I got exactly what I wanted at an awesome price.  I’ve only ordered from Redco a couple of times but you can bet I’ll order from them again soon.
