The Ultimate Showdown

Okay, so I know I’ve been lax in posting for a long while.  I’ve been quite busy keeping up with existing clients, some side jobs, school, and photo documenting the effects of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil spill.  Between all that and being a daddy I haven’t had much time for blogging lately but I’m going to try to get better.

I was reminded of this song this morning and wanted to share.  It’s catchy and fun.

Spring has sprung

I hope everyone had a great Easter.  Spring has definitely sprung at our house.  The flowers and trees are in bloom, the birds are singing and nesting.  It’s a beautiful time of year on the Gulf Coast.

Azalea Bloom

Now how can I record voiceovers outdoors?  ;)

Wes Loper sings the commercial

I’m going through my hard drives and cleaning off old stuff.  I’m a pack rat in the real world and the digital realm.  Anyway, I happened across a folder full of my favorite production from the late 90′s and early 00′s.  I might share a few more later – we’ll see.

My friend and very talented musician Wes Loper collaborated with  me to produce this spot in 2001:

Wharfhouse Restaurant Commercial

As a radio production director most of the time the commercials I made were pretty straightforward.  Voice over music, add a little compression and you were done.  Time to churn out the next one.  But every now and then you get to do something different.  This was one such project.  Wes came to the station after hours one night and we recorded it together in a few takes.  Wes did a great job with it but I wish I had half the production skills then that I do now.  I could have really made this into something special.  Wes, you and I both have come a long way since then, lol.  It’s only been 9 years.  Let’s do another one.

Is this how you place Auralex?

Is this how you properly place Auralex?

It sure did tighten up the bass response in my studio, lol.

Posted from my iPhone.

Four Chords, 36 Songs

My friend Kara Edwards posted this on the VO-BB.  Cool and enlightening.  It’s the first time I’ve put flash on my site so no idea how it’s going to work.  If the embedded player doesn’t show up here’s the direct link: http://www.todaysbigthing.com/2009/01/20

“There are only so many combinations of notes that a musician can use. It’s inevitable that we’re going to run out of original songs eventually, hence this video. Even my beloved Journey is unoriginal. I’ve officially stopped believin’.”

Auto-Tune The News 10

The new Auto-Tune the News #10 video is on You Tube!  YES!  I love this stuff.

“You shall build a turtle fence, you shall build a turtle fence,” I’ll be singing that all day.

Having a little fun with my friend Taylor

This morning my friend and client Taylor Zarzour of NC Sports Talk posted on Twitter:

Hit a 3 & scored 1st bucket 4 the fighting Josh Haleys in the media game at Duke. Also got scored on by a girl. Lets focus on the positives.

Here’s a little something I whipped up in response:

Happy Mardi Gras!

Yep, it’s Fat Tuesday.  There’s no better place to celebrate than Mobile, AL (the original home of Mardi Gras) or New Orleans, LA but if you can’t be either place in person at least you can be there in spirit and check out some webcams.

Here’s the City of Mobile Mardi Gras Cam and a collection of webcams from New Orleans.

Axe Cop video

This is so cool! Some of my fellow voice overs brought life to Axe Cop. Check it out:

If you don’t know the story: read the origins on the Axe Cop site.  Dave D’Andrea plays Axe Cop.  Lee Gordon and Bob Souer are also in it.  Leave a comment if I need to add someone’s name to the list.
