Thought for Today – Eloquence

I read a quote this morning I found fascinating and I’ve been thinking about it all morning and how it applies to life.

False eloquence is exaggeration; true eloquence is emphasis. – William R. Alger

Did you know Hart Voice Overs is available in mobile format for your iPhone, Blackberry or other smart phone?

Just go to Hart Voice Overs in your mobile browser and it should come up in the mobile version automatically.

If you prefer to read the site in it’s original format there is a link at the bottom that sends you back to the web version.

I’ve added a new plugin to the site so you should now be able to listen to my demos and other audio files from your smart phone.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with the mobile version.  I check it often on my iPhone but never know what I might miss.

Peter O’Connell commented below and asked me to share how I did it. It’s insanely easy if you use WordPress:  (more…)

Wisdom From My 3 Year Old

This morning as I was dressing him for daycare my 3 year old son said, “The clock on your bracelet ticks and that means you’re running out of time.” Yes, yes it does. Wisdom from the mouth of babes.

Building a Website With WordPress

Building a Website with WordPressYesterday I had a good friend and sometimes client email me and ask me about the new Hart Voice Overs website.  He said:

“I’m curious to know about the blog that you have been doing.  Was that a free application and did it integrate with your existing website?  How has it been?  You like?”

I’ve had a few other people ask so I thought I would share some of my response: (more…)

Brian Hart Demos Coming Soon – I Promise

013 300x225 Brian Hart Demos Coming Soon I PromiseI realize many of you are coming to my site and saying, “but where are the demos”?

Please bear with me.  The site hasn’t even been up a week yet and I want new demos to go with the new site.  It’s a work in progress and I had no idea how much excitement Hart Voice Overs would generate in it’s first week.  But I know you can’t decide if you want to talk to me without something.  So here is an overview of some of what I do from my other site, Brian Hart Productions.  Please ignore the phone number at the end, it’s no longer valid.  My new number is (251) 752-9221.

Brian Hart Overview

This demo is mainly showcasing my audio production but my voice is also featured throughout.  There are more demos on that site you can listen to as well.  I know you’ll like what you hear and if you decide I might be a good fit for your project please contact me for a free audition and quote.

How to Hire a Voice Over

Microphone by Brian Hart, on FlickrI understand the thought of hiring a voice actor can be overwhelming to many so I have written an article called “How To Hire a Voice Over” as a service to my clients and prospective clients.

I have done my best to explain the process as concisely as possible but the article does have a good amount of meat in it.

If you find the online version hard to read you may download the PDF version instead:

Happy Mardi Gras!

Yep, it’s Fat Tuesday.  There’s no better place to celebrate than Mobile, AL (the original home of Mardi Gras) or New Orleans, LA but if you can’t be either place in person at least you can be there in spirit and check out some webcams.

Here’s the City of Mobile Mardi Gras Cam and a collection of webcams from New Orleans.

Mother was right: Think before speaking

I read this great article in the Tuscaloosa News this morning.  Since our business is the business of communicating – or in essence language itself I found it particularly poignant.

Constructing My Voice Over Booth

The Vocal Booth at Hart Voice Overs

Ah, the weekend.  Time to practice  my sheetrocking skills.  This morning I’m sanding the first skimcoat of joint compound and applying the second coat in my new voice over booth.  Ultimately there will be three coats of joint compound before I’m ready to prime and paint.

The basic application of joint compound is the same in a studio as it is in a home and there’s plenty of information available on the web for you to read.  But there are some other considerations you need to keep in mind for a studio project. (more…)
